Here are my five tips that I hope will be good advice that will help you in 2017. I certainly will be doing my best to try and work towards these. They aren’t easy, but targets and new ways of thinking seldom are.
Simplify life – life gets too busy and there is often too much going on to focus on what is important in life. Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? What do you want to have achieved by then? By removing some of the less important things from our lives, we can focus on achieving some of those targets and goals. If you are checking what is happening on Facebook or Twitter more than ten times a day, that is a lot of time you could be spending achieving something else instead.
Sideline or distance yourself from negative people from your life – some people will spend more time talking about other people’s lives that they don’t concentrate on what is going on in their own. Focus on who is there for you for the right reasons, and who add value to your lives not those who add stress or negativity. The kind of people who are worth having around will stick with you and those people who aren’t are more likely not to.
Surround yourself with people you want to be like – they say you end up being like the five people closest to you. Look around you and see who those people are, and whether you would be happy being an amalgam of those five people. There is a saying in business that if you can’t change your staff, change your staff. Whilst this isn’t always easy, being around people who are like-minded and have similar objectives certainly help you as you strive for what is important in your own life.
Take action – leave the excuses in 2016 with the excuse makers. What you do and what you achieve largely falls down to you and what you get round to doing. Can’t should not be a word that is used. Can and did are words that should be used. When you look back on your year, what do you want to see – the same old thing from previous years, or steps forwards made towards where you want to be and the kind of life you want to live.
Set and review targets, challenges and goals. Make sure that one of those challenges is to review how far you have come and what you have achieved to date. It is all well and good working towards something but not seeing your accomplishments. This is important at work too. It is very easy to be busy all day every day doing your daily work, but taking the time to reflect on what you have achieved is as important as it can drive you on. Having that sight of what you have achieved week by week, month by month, can drive you towards what you want to achieve.
Good luck in these if you choose to work towards them. I hope that they help you have a very happy 2017 and an enjoyable future.
